Business Skills Survey (for business owners only)
We are gathering evidence from Bexley businesses about their current and future skills needs. This insight will support Bexley’s 2050 Vision and support learning institutions such as Learning Enterprise College Bexley, London South East Colleges and the Council’s education service to help develop future curriculum and courses.
This survey is for any Bexley businesses who employ staff.

Results
24 responses were received from businesses. Responses were from a variety of business sectors and business sizes.
There was an expectation that staffing levels would either remain the same or increase.
Most respondents expected they will have vacancies to fill in the future.
Top skills gaps highlighted were:
- Management/Leadership Skills (critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, delegation)
- Soft Skills (time management, customer service, communication)
- Technical Skills (qualifications, computer programming.
The top skills gaps anticipated for the future were:
- Foundation Skills (language, numeracy, confidence, ability to learn, reliability)
- Management/Leadership Skills (critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, delegation)
- Technical Skills (qualifications, computer programming
- Soft Skills (time management, customer service, communication).
Almost half of respondents said they anticipated dealing with these skills gaps using in-house training (including online).
Less than half of respondents offered work experience. Many who didn’t were not in a position to offer it.
These results were shared with the sub-group working towards the 2050 Vision goal 5 (Take advantage of the skills and employment opportunities of the future), to be considered with the Government’s 2024 Employer skills survey. Along with other evidence, these views help shape the future Skills and Employment Strategy.
