Draft Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document Part 2 Consultation
The Council has prepared a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to provide design guidance on development across the borough that promotes sustainable, inclusive and exemplar design. It provides homeowners, developers, landowners and decision makers with further design guidance.
The Design Guide SPD supports the 2023 Bexley Local Plan (a planning document that sets out long-term policies that guide decisions about new homes, the local economy, Bexley’s built character, highways and infrastructure and environmental protection).
In January 2025, the Design Guide SPD Part 1 – Design Principles, which applies to all new development across the borough, was adopted.
The Design Guide SPD Part 2 has now been drafted to provide guidance on specific types of common and emerging development. It is made up of four documents – Building Alterations and Extensions, Small Sites, Area Types and Technical Handbook.
We want to hear for your views on the draft Design Guide SPD Part 2 (four documents above) and want to know what you think of the proposed content, including how it is written and presented.
Your views will influence the final content of the SPD, which is due to be adopted later in 2026.
